Inter Europol Competition 1-2 and Back-To-Back Victories at Le Mans

The no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca-Gibson, and drivers Kuba Smiechowski, Nick Yelloly and Tom Dillmann, secured their second LMP2 victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in a row, the first this has been achieved since 2019 when Signatech Alpine Matmut did the same.   Smiechowski also becomes a three time Le Mans winner, the 2025 and 2026 victories added to the win he took in 2023 Fabio Scherer and Albert Costa.

It was also a 1-2 for the Polish team, with the no343 Oreca finishing second, with Reshad De Gerus, Bijoy Garg and Nico Muller joining their teammates on the most famous podium in endurance racing, emulating the same feat achieved by Oak Racing in 2013 and Jackie Chan DC Racing in 2017.

Eighteen of the nineteen LMP2 competitors finished the race, with the no30 Duqueine Team Oreca the only car in the class not to cross the line after Richard Vershoor pulling off the track on Lap 303 with a technical issue while leading the category. 

Reigning ELMS Champions Forestier Racing by Panis finished third, 12.9 seconds behind the second placed car, with Esteban Masson lifting the Goodyear Wingfoot Driver of the Day award for LMP2, the French driver being recognised by the fans. 

The LMP2 Pro/Am class was won the Asian Le Mans Series winning car, the no4 Crowdstrike by APR Oreca-Gibson, with the first ELMS competitor, the no183 AF Corse Oreca-Gibson of Francois Perrodo, Matthieu Vaxiviere and Ben Barnicoat, finishing second and the no99 AO by TF Oreca, driven by PJ Hyett, Dane Cameron and James Allen in third.

All of the six ELMS LMGT3 competitors finished the race, with the no150 Richard Mille AF Corse Ferrari 296 LMGT3 Evo finishing 8th in class with Riccardo Agostini taking the chequered flag.  

The no74 Kessel Racing Ferrari 296 LMGT3 Evo, finished 9th, the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari was 10th and the no59 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Vantage 11th.  The no2 TF Sport Corvette finished 14th and the no62 Team Qatar Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG 16th. 

The European Le Mans Series returns in less than three weeks with Round 3, the 4 Hours of Imola on 3-5 July.
