Doriane Pin was once again the fastest LMP2 driver, the young French driver posting a 3m34.662, 0.8 seconds faster than last year's pole time, and the no30 Duqueine Team Oreca-Gibson will progress to the next stage of qualifying tomorrow.
The top 15 cars of the 19 strong in LMP2 field now move forward to Hyperpole 1, with the no44 Proton Competition (Horst Felbermayr Jr), the no25 Algarve Pro Racing (Michael Jensen), no48 RD Limited (Fred Poordad) and the no3 DKR Engineering (John Farano) being the four cars that won’t be taking to the track in the next stage of qualifying for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The no37 CLX Motorsport of Ian Aguilera was second quickest, the Mexican finishing 0.567s behind Dorian Pin and 0.018s ahead of Bijoy Garg in the no343 Inter Europol Competition Oreca.
The fastest LMP2 Pro/Am car was the no99 AO by TF, with reigning 24 Hours of Le Mans class winner PJ Hyett lapping in 3m38.698, over six tenths ahead of George Kurtz in the no4 Crowdstrike by APR. The two American drivers were 11th and 12th overall respectively. Francois Perrodo (no183 AF Corse), Tobias Lutke (no14 TDS Racing) and Daniel Schneider (no222 United Autosports) rounded out the top 15 and will move forward to Hyperpole 1.
In LMGT3 only one ELMS car made it into the top 15, with the no74 Kessel Racing Ferrari driven by Dustin Blattner putting in a 3m56.560 to claim 6th place in the class. Blattner’s time was 0.816s behind the fastest car in the 30-minute session, with Peter Dempsey in the no34 Racing Team Turkey by TF Corvette posting the fastest time of 3m55.744.
The no62 Team Qatar by Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG driven by Abdulla Al-Khelaifi finished just outside the top 15 in 16th place, with the no150 Richard Mille AF Corse Ferrari of Custodio Toledo, the no57 Kessel Racing of Takeshi Kimura and the no59 Racing Spirit of Léman of Clément Mateu finishing in 20th, 21st and 22nd respectively.
The top 15 cars will be back on track for Hyperpole 1 at 20h00 on Thursday 11 June, with the top 10 in each class going through to Hyperpole 2 at 20h35.
