Portimão – Facts and Figures

Portugal has hosted the European Le Mans Series season finale since 2014.  For three years, from 2014 to 2016, the Portuguese round of the series was held at Estoril. In 2017 the race was held for the first time at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and it has been the season finale for the past ten seasons.

Portimão – Facts and Figures
06/10/2026
  • The first edition of the 4 Hours of Portimão was held on the 22 October 2017 and won by the no40 Graff Oreca 07-Gibson of Richard Bradley, James Allen and Gustavo Yacaman.
  • Portimão hosted the first ever ELMS double header in 2023, with the 4 Hours of Algarve on Saturday 21 October and the 4 Hours of Portimão on Sunday 22 October.  This double race weekend was due to the fact that the race in Imola had to be cancelled due to building work.
  • The 2026 4 Hours of Portimão will be the eleventh 4-hour ELMS race held at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
  • United Autosports has won six times in Portimão with four LMP2 (2018, 2021 and two in 2023) and two LMP3 (2017 and 2020) victories.  The Anglo-American team has also appeared on both the LMP2 and LMP3 podiums in every race from 2017 to 2021, and on the LMP3 podium in 2022.  United Autosports have secured 15 podium finishes in the nine previous races held at Portimão.
  • Proton Competition has also won in Portimão six times. The German team have won LMGTE five times in 2017, 2018, 2020 and both races in 2023 where they took a 1-2 finish in both, with Christian Ried being a member of all five crews. In 2024 Proton Competition won the LMP2 Pro/Am category with Giorgio Roda, Bent Viscaal and Rene Binder.
  • In 2022 Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting and Doriane Pin became the first all-female crew to win an ELMS race in their Iron Lynx run Ferrari 488 GTE EVO.
  • In 2022 Malthe Jakobsen also set a new ELMS record when the Dane secured his sixth LMP3 pole position from six attempts in the no17 COOL Racing Ligier-Nissan, the first time all six pole positions in a season have gone to the same driver.
  • Malthe Jakobsen followed this with an overall victory in LMP2 for COOL Racing in 2024 alongside Lorenzo Fluxa and Ritomo Miyata, becoming the first driver to win the 4 Hours of Portimão in three different classes (LMP2 in 2024, LMP2 P/A in 2023 and LMP3 in 2022).
  • The closest ever finish to an ELMS championship was the 2020 LMGTE when Proton Competition (Alessio Picariello, Michele Beretta and Christian Ried) and Kessel Racing (David Perel and Michael Broniszewski) both finished the 5-race season on 99-points.  The two teams also had an identical tally of two wins, two seconds and one fourth place finish, with Proton Competition being declared champions because they won the first race in Le Castellet.
