FP1: IDEC Sport leads the way in First Practice

Valerio Rinicella set the fastest lap of the first Free Practice session at Spa-Francorchamps, with the Italian driver posting a 2m02.110 to heading the times by nearing one second in the no18 IDEC Sport Oreca-Gibson.

Reigning champion Esteban Masson posted the second fastest lap of the 90-minute session, lapping in 2m03.042 in the no29 Forestier Racing by Panis Oreca, 0.932s behind the lead car and 0.190s ahead of the no25 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca of Jake Hughes.  The no43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca was 4th quickest, with Reshad De Gerus finishing just 0.006s behind Hughes with a 2m03.238.

Malthe Jakobsen was the fastest LMP2 Pro/Am competitor, the Dane lapping the 7km circuit in 2m03.262 in the no20 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca, which was good enough for 5th overall.  Jakobsen finished the session 0.655s ahead of the second fastest car in the class, the no19 Rossa Racing by Virage of Manuel Espirito Santo, the Portuguese driver’s time of 2m03.917 putting him 10th overall.

The no30 Duqueine Team and the no14 TDS Racing were third and fourth fastest with a 2m03.976 set by Richard Vershoor and a 2m03.980 set by Scott Huffaker respectively.

The LMP3 field was headed by the no17 CLX Motorsport after Louis Iglesias posted a 2m12.788 lap, 0.168s ahead of Wyatt Brichacek in the no4 DKR Engineering Ligier.  Daniel Nogales was third fastest in the no8 Team Virage Ligier with a 2m13.847, 0.036s ahead of Chun Ting Chou in the no13 Inter Europol Competition.

Sergio Sette Camara was the quickest driver in LMGT3, lapping the 7km Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in 2m17.985 in the no63 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG.  The Brazilian’s time was just 0.094s ahead of the no51 AF Corse Ferrari 296 of David Rigon, the Italian finishing the 90-minute session 0.002s ahead of the no59 Racing Spirit of Leman Aston Martin Vantage of Parker Thompson. 

Thomas Sargent made it four different manufacturers in the top four after the American posted a 2m18.292 lap in the no75 Proton Competition Porsche 911.
