The Pace Quickens in Free Practice 2 at Monza

The no21 Dragonspeed Oreca-Gibson was the fastest of the 36 cars taking part in the second Free Practice session of the weekend at Monza. Under a blue sky and warm sunshine Nico Lapierre set a 1m37.258 lap, 0.3 seconds ahead of the no39 Graff Oreca of Enzo Guibbert and another three tenths ahead of the no32 United Autosports Ligier of Filipe Albuquerque.

Lapierre’s time was 0.4 second slower than the best time set in the first practice session by Ryo Hirakawa in the no22 G-Drive Racing Oreca but still faster than everyone else.

The best time in the LMP3 class was set by Alexandre Cougnaud in the no18 M.Racing-YMR with a 1m46.527, the fastest LMP3 time of the weekend so far.  Cougnaud’s time was 0.1 seconds ahead of the no11 Eurointernational Ligier of Giorgio Mondini and 0.3 seconds faster than the Italian no10 Oregon Racing Norma M30 driven by Dario Capitanio.

The Larbre Corvette was quickest of the seven LMGTE entries with Fernando Rees setting a 1m49.164, 0.8 seconds inside the best time set in Free Practice One set by Matteo Cairoli in the no77 Proton Competition Porsche.  Nicki Thiim set the second fastest time of the session in the no90 TF Sport Aston Martin, the reigning WEC LMGTE Champion posting a time less than 0.1 seconds behind the leading car.

Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Monza starts with LMGTE at 13h15.
