With the sun shining after earlier rain, the Silverstone track had dried enough to allow the LMGTE and GTC competitors to select slick tyres for the first qualifying session of the 2015 season.
The early pace was set by Klaus Bachler in the no88 Proton Competition Porsche lowering the provisional pole time to 2m00.269 before returning to the pits with 10 minutes remaining on the clock. The no56 Ferrari of Alessandro Pier Guidi was the second quickest car in the first half of the session before the no52 BMW Team MarcVDS Z4 of Andy Priaulx and no86 Gulf Racing Porsche of Adam Carroll started to challenge for the top spot. However it was the no81 Ferrari of Michele Rugolo that displaced Bachler’s Porsche from the top of timing screen with a 2m00.151 lap, 0.118s faster.
In GTC Marco Cioci in the no63 AF Corse Ferrari was the quickest car for the first part of the session but it was the no59 TDS Racing BMW Z4 of Franck Perera who went into the top spot with a 2m01.939, 1 second ahead Cioci, with the no62 AF Corse Ferrari of Francesco Castellacci.
