4 Hours of Red Bull Ring track guide

After a gap of three years the European Le Mans Series returns to the Red Bull Ring in Austria for Round 2 of the 2021 season.  The 4.218km track is nestled in the foothills of the Styrian Alps and provides the competitors with a unique challenge when compared to the other Grand Prix tracks on the calendar such as Spa-Francorchamps, Le Castellet and Monza.

  1. At 4.318km Red Bull Ring is the shortest circuit on the ELMS calendar
  2. The ELMS race at the Red Bull Ring was held for six years, from 2013 until 2018, with the round moving to Barcelona in 2019.
  3. The race in 2013 was three hours in duration and in 2014 it moved to the current 4-hour format.
  4. Ferrari have won the LMGTE class five out of six times, from 2013 to 2017.Proton Competition won with Porsche in 2018.
  5. Ireland’s Matt Griffin has won in the ELMS three times at the Red Bull Ring, 2013 with RAM Racing with Johnny Mowlem on their way to the ELMS title that year. Griffin won with AF Corse in 2014 and Spirit of Race in 2017, both times with Duncan Cameron.
  6. LMP2 has seen several manufactures take the overall victory in Austria. Oreca (2013, 2016, 2018), Ligier (2017), Gibson (2015), Alpine (2014)
  7. Thiriet by TDS Racing is the only LMP2 team to win twice in Austria (2013 and 2016) with Pierre Thiriet and Matthias Beche the only LMP2 drivers to win twice.
  1. The LMP3 category was unveiled by the ACO in a press conference at the Red Bull Ring in 2014.
  2. The following season the LMP3 category ran in Austria for the first time, with Chris Hoy and Charlie Robertson taking victory in the Ginetta-Nissan.
  3. Ligier have taken three LMP3 wins with United Autosports (2016), Eurointernational (2017) and RLR MSport (2018)
