2026 will mark the fifth season in LMP2 for Reshad de Gerus, with the French driver switching to 2025 ELMS Vice Champions and 24 Hours of Le Mans LMP2 winners Inter Europol Competition this year.
The 22-year-old from the Indian Ocean island of Réunion started his career in karts and single seaters, becoming French F4 Vice champion in 2019. In 2022 De Gerus switched to the ELMS, competing with Duqueine Team, then COOL Racing and IDEC Sport before signing to join Bijoy Garg in the no34 Inter Europol Competition Oreca 07-Gibson in 2026.
While podium finishes have been hard to come by, the French driver has demonstrated his speed in an LMP2 car on many occasions, most recently by taking pole position for the 4 Hours of Barcelona last season.
We caught up with Reshad de Gerus for a quick interview as he prepares for his fifth ELMS season.
Q1: We’re heading to Barcelona for the opening round of the 2026 ELMS. What are your thoughts on the track that you scored a pole position last season? Do you have a favourite corner or sequence?
Reshad de Gerus: “Barcelona is one of my favourite tracks. It’s always a pleasure to start the season there, and I have great memories, including my first pole position in ELMS back in 2023.
“My favourite section is sector 2, which combines slow-speed corners like Turn 5 with a very high-speed corner like Turn 9. It’s very technical, and as a driver you can gain or lose a lot of time in this section.”
Q2: You are racing for Inter Europol Competition this season. How are you settling in with the team and how are you getting along with your new teammates?
RG: “First of all, I’m really pleased to be joining Inter Europol Competition for this season. I’ve worked with some of the team members in the past, which made it easier to settle in. I didn’t know Bijoy personally before, but we’re getting to know each other as we go along. We’re both young and share the same desire to win.”
Q3: Apart from your pole position at Barcelona, what are the positives you take away from your 2025 season and what are your hopes for the 2026 season with Inter Europol Competition?
RG: “I learnt a lot from the 2025 season, particularly in my ability to help a team improve technically and achieve strong performance.
“With Inter Europol Competition it will be a bit different. In recent years, they have established themselves as one of the top teams in the championship, with a very solid foundation. This allows us to focus on the finer details to achieve strong results. The target is clear — we want to fight for the championship with both cars.”
Q4: You know first-hand how competitive the LMP2 category is in the ELMS. What are your thoughts when you look at the grid for the 2026 season?
RG: “The 2026 grid is incredibly competitive, with many factory drivers joining ELMS. It’s probably the strongest grid I’ve seen since I started in the championship in 2022. The level is definitely stepping up, and that’s exactly what we want as drivers if we are to keep improving.”
Q5: What would be a good result for your first race with Inter Europol Competition in Spain?
RG: “In an ideal weekend, you always want to secure pole position and win the race. But for my first race with Inter Europol Competition, I would already be very happy to finish on the podium.”
Q6: Tell us a bit more about Reshad De Gerus. What do you like to do when not racing? Do you take part in any other sports? Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of motorsport?
RG: “I’m a big sports fan in general. I cycle a lot and started getting into triathlons last year. I was lucky enough to take part in my first race at the end of the year, where I finished on the podium in my category. I try to be as versatile as possible.”
