The chequered flag was shown at 17h00 today to bring the official ELMS Official Test to a close and it was a United Autosports 1-2 at the top of the timing screens with the fastest times of the week so far.
The morning session saw the overnight times beaten once again in all three classes until the test session was brought to a halt by a red flag which was caused by the no50 Richard Mille Racing Team Oreca driven by Katherine Legge going off track at Signes and hitting the barriers.Legge remained conscious while she was removed from the car and airlifted to hospital in Toulon with a broken leg.
The no21 Dragonspeed Oreca was fastest with Ben Hanley posting a 1m38.824 lap, eight tenths ahead of the no32 United Autosports Oreca.The LMP3 grid was headed by the no2 United Autosports Ligier once again with Wayne Boyd lapping the circuit in 1m48.132s, and the LMGTE field was led by the no77 Dempsey Proton Porsche of Alessio Picariello, the Italian’s time of 1m52.099 beating the previous best by nearly two tenths.
The afternoon session was extended by an hour to make up for the lost time from the earlier session.At the end of the test the top five cars in the final session made the top five places over the two days with Alex Brundle claiming the top spot by lapping the 5.770km track in 1m38.158 in the no32 United Autosports Oreca, 0.289s ahead of his teammate Filipe Albuquerque in the no22 Oreca.The no26 G-Drive Racing Aurus was third fastest overall with Nyck de Vries taking just 1m38.516 to lap the circuit, just under two tenths ahead of the no37 Cool Racing Oreca of Nico Lapierre.
Reigning LMP3 champions Eurointernational topped the class times with Niko Kari the only driver to post a sub 1 minute 48 second lap with a time of 1m47.957.The two United Autosports Ligiers were second and third fastest with Wayne Boyd claiming second fastest thanks to his time sheet topping time from the morning session, with Duncan Tappy claiming the second fastest time in the afternoon session but third fastest over the two days with a 1m48.151 lap in the no3 United Autosports Ligier-Nissan.
The fastest LMGTE lap went to the no77 Dempsey Proton Porsche of Alessio Picariello for the 1m52.099 lap set in the morning session while Andrea Piccini claimed the top spot in the afternoon and second fastest overall with a 1m52.145 lap in the no60 Iron Lynx Ferrari F488.
The ELMS teams now get one day to prepare their cars for the 4 Hours of Le Castellet weekend that begins on Friday 17thand concludes with the first 4-hour race of the 2020 season on Sunday 19 July.
