Portimão: The polemen reactions

ELMS - 26/10/2019 - Jeff CARTER

Filipe Albuquerque - No22 United Autosports Oreca 07-Gibson

“I so happy to make a pole position here in Portugal, my home country.  The qualify was not smooth at all in the first set.  I got traffic, which was not perfect, and then I saw the lap time from Ben (Hanley), which was really impressive.

“The second set saw everything going smoothly and a bit quicker.  I still got traffic in the last corner, which is not nice because when you commit for that speed, there is no way you are going to brake because you don’t know where you are going to be because it is blind.  I just decided to do it all on the outside and it was still enough to take pole position by a tenth.  It was a mega qualifying session.

“I hope there will be a lot of fans here tomorrow.  In this job there is a lot of pressure all year round, but there is more here for me, especially as we did an event in my home town of Coimbra with the United Autosports car, which a lot of people came down.  People were saying to me ‘for sure you are going to win’ but it’s not that easy but I hope we can get the win and the pleasure for them.”

Lucas Légeret – no19 M Racing Norma M30-Nissan

“Our third pole of the season and I did pole here in Portimão last year as well.  It was perfect and it’s just amazing to do it again here.  The lap was really fast, last year I couldn’t just get into the 39s and this year I think we did an amazing time.

“We’ve had a lot of bad luck throughout the year and we are going to try to do a podium tomorrow and it would be amazing to finish the season in this way.”

Matteo Cairoli – no77 Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche 911 RSR

“This is four pole positions from the six races, or in my case five races as I didn’t do qualifying in Barcelona, which is a good average.  The car was mega to drive and, like usual, the team is doing a massive job. They are preparing the car day and night in the best way possible, so it is a big thanks to them as without them it would be impossible to be on pole today.

“In the first flying lap I put all the sectors together and the car was brilliant to drive.  It was enough to be on pole today.

“While we lost the championship, the goal for this weekend is to finish right behind the leaders and get the entry for Le Mans next year.”
