JMW Motorsport with its n°84 Ferrari 488 GTE finished third of the LMGTE Am class after a faultless race. Still in the LMGTE Am class, the 100% female crew of Kessel Racing at the wheel of the n°83 488 finished 10th of their class, behind the Porsche n°78 of Proton Competition and in front their sister car the n°60 Ferrari 488 GTE.
Following the post race technical checks, the JMW Motorsport Ferrari was promoted second of the LMGTE AM class after the disqualification of the n°85 Keating Motorsport Ford GT) for the breach of the fuel tank capacity regulations.
In the LMP2 class, 10 ELMS cars crossed the finish line of the twice-around-the-clock endurance race.
The first one, was the n°22 United Autosports Ligier JSP217 driven by Filipe Albuquerque, Phil Hanson and Paul Di Resta that finished 4th of the LMP2 and 9th in the overall classification.
“It’s pretty cool now to be the youngest top-10 finisher in the history of the Le Mans 24 Hours that first ran in 1923. Fourth place is my best Le Mans finish but I’m a little disappointed not to have been on the podium. Our Ligier ran reliably throughout, if lacking outright pace compared to our rivals, while the team executed a brilliant race strategy. We lost time with drive-thru penalty when Filipe overtook under the Safety Car and then when we had to fit a new door. Those delays accounted for a lap and that’s what we missed standing on the podium by. That’s motor racing but it makes me more determined for next year’s event”, said Phil Hanson.
Right behind the n°22 we found 7 other ELMS teams: Idec Sport, G-Drive Racing, Duqueine Engineering, Panis-Barthez Competition, Graff, Algarve Pro Racing and High Class Racing.
The n°32 United Autosports Ligier JSP217 of Ryan Cullen, Alex Brundle and Will Owen finished 14th of the LMP2 class.
For their first participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Inter Europol Competition managed to cross the finish line in 16th position of the LMP2 class. James Winslow said, “It was nice to cross the line and to take the chequered flag for the team. They all worked extremely hard. It is not an easy race specially if you come here for the first time. But the team showed its potential through hard work.”
Due to a mechanical failure only 4 hours before the end of the 24 hour-race, the n°43 RLR MSport Oreca 07 is the only ELMS team that did not take the chequered flag.
“The whole 24 Hours of Le Mans experience has been awesome,” said Maini. “We’ve been a bit unlucky overall, suffering with a few little issues, so it hasn't been the perfect start to my Le Mans career, but I definitely have a taste for it now. It has taught me a lot, because no matter what comes our way, we can rise up and keep fighting. It’s disappointing to retire so close to the end but there’s nothing we could have done about it.”
We are vey proud of the ELMS teams that bearded the colour of the championship in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
