LM GTE - 05/03/2020 - Press release - JMW Motorsport
JMW Motorsport is pleased to announce three new drivers for its 2020 European Le Mans Series campaign. Following on from its strong line-up last season, during which the team claimed numerous podium finishes, this year the driving seat will host Gunnar Jeannette, Rodrigo Sales and Finlay Hutchison.
American Gunnar Jeannette has made a strong name for himself in the IMSA WeatherTech Championship as well as internationally. Following his debut in the American Le Mans Series in 2000 and his first (of eight) Le Mans 24 Hours appearances at age 18, he went on to secure factory drives with Panoz in LMP1 and Multimatic Ford in GT, as well as top American Le Mans Series seats with AJR Porsche, RAM Ferrari and CORE Autosport, becoming ALMS LMPC drivers co-champion in 2011.
American / Mexican dual national Rodrigo Sales has also developed his career in the USA, finishing second in the IMSA Sportscar Challenge in 2018 with 3 race wins and 7 podiums. Sales and Jeannette also teamed up at the 2019 Historic Sportscar Racing Classic 24 Daytona, taking an overall win as part of the Lowenbrau Porsche 962C crew, alongside the legendary Derek Bell.
Finlay Hutchison is well-known in the sportscar paddock. Despite only four years of car racing behind him, Hutchison has already proven himself to be competitive behind the wheel. In 2019 he completed a successful season in the Blancpain Endurance Series (now GT World Challenge Europe). Now, he will make his European Le Mans Series debut, together with his first appearance in a Ferrari 488.
The European Le Mans Series gets underway with a pre-season test at Circuit de Catalunya on 30-31st March, with the first race (4 Hours of Barcelona) at the same venue on 5th April.
Jim McWhirter, Team Principal:
“I’m pleased with our driver line-up for this season. All three drivers are known entities within the industry, and I’m confident we have a strong trio to continue our strong form from the last few seasons. Together they have a wealth of experience, which will hopefully see us in a good position in the LMGTE class.
“JMW has a history of success and an outstanding reputation in the paddock. I am excited to be joining the team and look forward to contributing to another strong European Le Mans Series season.”
“It’s really exciting to be joining JMW in European Le Mans Series this year in the Ferrari, it’ll be another fresh challenge and one I can’t wait to begin”, said Hutchison. “The team has enjoyed a lot of success in the championship in LMGTE and the car is certainly proven, so I’m looking forward to having my first run very soon.
“Over the last couple of years I have gained a lot of experience in endurance racing and last year, of course, Blancpain was another step-up for me in GT3. I’m aiming to put everything I’ve learnt into practice in LMGTE this year and looking forward to teaming-up with Gunnar and Rodrigo. I’m sure it’ll be a great season.”
