Fourteen ELMS cars in the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans!

ELMS - 01/03/2019 - Sophie LIGER

The ACO has released the full list of the sixty cars that will participate in the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans. Among the huge grid that will form up in June, there are no less than fourteen cars that are also entered in the 2019 European Le Mans Series.

The 2018 champions: G-Drive Racing, RLR MSport and Proton Competition, as well as the 2nd placed LMGTE team, JMW Motorsport, were automatically invited to the 87th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In addition to those four cars, there are a further ten ELMS cars that have been selected by the ACO.

In LMP2, we can count eight ELMS cars on the Le Mans grid. G-Drive Racing, the 2018 ELMS champions and RLR MSport, the 2018 ELMS LMP3 champions that have step up in LMP2 this season. The other six are also well-known ELMS teams, such as United Autosports, Panis-Barthez Competition, Algarve Pro Racing, Idec Sport, Graff and Inter Europol Competition, the Polish team making their La Sarthe debut in 2019.

In LMGTE, six cars are selected. The 2018 ELMS champions and vice-champion Proton Competition (#78 Porsche 911 RSR) and JMW Motorsport (#66 Ferrari F488 GTE). We can also find on the list the 2018 GT3 Michelin Le Mans Cup Champions Kessel Racing. The Swiss team has been rewarded with two entries, the #60 Ferrari F488 and the #83 Ferrari, which features the first all-female driver line-up to take the start at Le Mans since 2010. Finally, the #99 Dempsey-Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR and the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari F488 will also participate in the most famous endurance race in the world.

The fourteen entries means ELMS teams will make up over 23% of the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans grid.

Before heading to Le Mans the European Le Mans Series will have plenty of practice ahead of the big race with two events in France and Italy. The first event is the 4 Hours of Le Castellet on the 14th April for the first round of the 2019 European Le Mans Series, followed by the 4 Hours of Monza on Sunday 12th May.
