18 ELMS cars on the grid of the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans

  • 18 teams taking part in the 2020 European Le Mans Series have been invited to participate in the 88th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans on the 13th and 14th of June.
  • 2 out of the 3 female crews that will be in La Sarthe are European Le Mans Series entrants.

 

13 LMP2 out of 24

In LMP2, out of 24 cars, 13 are coming from the ELMS which is more than 50% of the grid. The LMP2 and LMP3 2019 champions, Idec Sport and Eurointernational got an automatic invitation.  Eurointernational will run the n°11 Ligier JSP217 Gibson and Idec Sport the n°28 Oreca 07 of Paul Lafargue, Paul Loup Chatin and Richard Bradley. 2019 ELMS LMP2 runner-up, G-Drive Racing also received an automatic invitation for its n°26 Aurus 01 and Roman Rusinov.  

Brand new on the 24 Hours of Le Mans entry list is Thunderhead Carlin Racing, Nielsen Racing and Inter Europol Competition. Also new on the grid is the Richard Mille Racing Team that will enter its 100% female line up of Katherine Legge, Tatiana Calderon and Sophia Floersch. It will be the first female trio to take part at Le Mans in a prototype category since 1991 with Lyn St James, Désiré Wilson and Cathy Muller (Spice Engineering).

The other ELMS cars that will take part to the 24 Hours of Le Mans are the no32 Oreca 07 of United Autosports , the no31 Oreca of Panis Racing, the no30 Oreca-Gibson of Duqueine Team, the no21 Oreca of DragonSpeed USA, the no25 Oreca of Algarve Pro Racing and the no39 Oreca 07-Gibson of Graff, which will run at Le Mans under the name of ‘So24-Has by Graff’.

Two other ELMS teams, Cool Racing and High Class Racing will be on the starting grid on the 13th June, as they are also participating in Season 8 of the FIA WEC.

 

LMGTE: 5 ELMS cars on track in La Sarthe

In the LMGTE Am class, five European Le Mans Series teams will be part of the 88th edition of the 24 hours of Le Mans.

The 2019 ELMS LMGTE champions, Dempsey-Proton Racing, received an automatic invitation following their victory and will be in Le Mans with the n°99 Porsche 911 RSR.

Kessel Racing, the 2019 Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 champions, also received an invitation for its Ferrari 488 GTE EVO that will wear the n°74. On the LMGTE Am grid we also find AF Corse with the n°52 Ferrari 488, JMW Motorsport with the n°87 Ferrari and finally the n°85 Ferrari 488 of Iron Lynx driven by the female trio of Manuela Gostner, Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting. It will be the second participation of the female crew in the world’s most famous endurance race.

Before heading to Le Mans, the ELMS competitors will first hit the track in Barcelona on the 5th of April for the first race of the 2020 season followed by the 4 Hours of Monza on the 10th of May.
