1000Km de SPA Francorchamps
We can, without hesitation, say that the Belgian circuit is one of the drivers' -both past and present- favourite.
In the past a non-permanent circuit, the track layout spreads through the undulating forests between Spa, Francorchamps and Stavelot cities. But when looking back to the history of the circuit it was not just the pastoral aspect that made it such a success.
It was more likely the 1954 race, the first, in which sports cars competed in the Spa 1000 KM before the race was shortened to 500KM in 1963 but then reinstated to 1000KMS on May 22, 1966. The race's greatest moment was perhaps in 1975 with team Bell / Pescarolo's aboard an Alfa Romeo 33TT12.
From 1982 to 1988, the 1000KM was the era of the Group C cars. Re-introduced 15 years later, the Spa 1000KMS has become one of the musts in the Le Mans Series “1000KM” races.
