Ryo Hirakawa completed a lap of the 5.7km track in 1m36.963, eight tenths faster than his nearest rival, Giorgio Sernagiotto in the all Italian no47 Cetilar Villorba Corsa Dallara-Gibson. Nico Lapierre in the no21 Dragonspeed Oreca was third quickest, three tenths ahead of the Silverstone podium finishers, the all Danish no49 High Class Racing Dallara.
Italy was on top at Monza in the LMP3 category with Italian driver Giorgio Mondini finishing the session with a 1m46.606 lap in the no11 Eurointernational Ligier, less than two tenths ahead of the no3 United Autosports Ligier of Wayne Boyd, with the sister car of Sean Rayhall just 0.005 seconds behind with the third fastest time of the 90-minute session.
Porsche were on top at the end of the first track session at Monza with the no77 Proton Competition 911 of Italian Matteo Cairoli setting the pace in the LMGTE class with a 1m49.943 lap, just 0.027s ahead of the no50 Larbre Competition Chevrolet Corvette of Fernando Rees. The no55 Spirit of Race Ferrari F488 GTE of Matt Griffin was third quickest ahead of his Italian teammates in the no51 Ferrari.
The second Free Practice session of the weekend will take place at 09h00 tomorrow morning, followed by qualifying for the 4 Hours of Monza, which gets underway at 13h15.
