This weekend the race for the European Le Mans Series title hots up and the ten drivers and four teams in the LMP2 class are all ready for a 4 hour long battle on Sunday afternoon.
The Signatech Alpine trio of Nelson Panciatici, Paul-Loup Chatin and Oliver Webb are out in front, just ahead of the JOTA Sport line up of Filipe Albuquerque, Simon Dolan and Harry Tincknell. Newblood by Morand Racing's Christian Klein and Gary Hirsch still have a shot at the title, teammate and 2013 ELMS Champion Pierre Ragues cannot retain his driver's crown, but he can help Morand to team title. Michel Frey and Franck Mailleux have an outside chance of lifting the 2014 title but they will need a lot of things to go their way on Sunday.

The first sports-prototype and GT endurance race at Estoril's circuit took place 42 years ago on the very day it opened in June 1972.
This kind of race was not a new phenomenon for Portugal as "Grand Touring and Sport Proto" cars were the main components of the national speed championship's principal category, itself begun in 1966. There had also been Grands Prix of Portugal in Lisbon and Porto using "Sport Proto endurance" cars and even the legendary circuit of Vila Real had organised endurance events in the 1950s, a championship very popular in Portugal at the time.Read more >>
